From Ol Kalou to the Nation: The People Have Spoken
Fellow citizens, Ol Kalou has made history, and we could not be prouder.
On 16 July 2026, the people of Ol Kalou went to the polls and sent the clearest message this country has heard in a long time. They chose the Democracy for the Citizens Party. They chose our candidate, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru Ngotho. And they did it by a margin nobody can argue with.
The numbers speak for themselves
When the IEBC declared the final results, Hon. Kamau had 35,440 votes. The ruling party’s candidate managed 5,450. That is more than six votes for DCP for every one cast for UDA. The other seven candidates on the ballot together received fewer than 450 votes.
More than 41,000 people turned out to vote, a 57 percent turnout. That is remarkable for a by-election. The people of Ol Kalou did not stay home. They showed up, and they showed up for DCP.
Our first Member of Parliament
This is a moment we will never forget. Ol Kalou has given DCP its first elected Member of Parliament. When we founded this party, many said it would never take root. Ol Kalou has answered them. The rejected stone has become the cornerstone.
Our Party Leader, Rigathi Gachagua, has thanked the voters of Ol Kalou for standing firm against intimidation and inducements. We join him in saluting every mother, father, young person and elder who refused to be bought or bullied.
They tried to stop us. They failed.
We cannot celebrate without remembering what Ol Kalou went through to cast these votes. On polling day, residents faced reports of armed, masked men and teargas in parts of Ol Kalou town. Tragically, a life was lost. Our hearts are with the family who are grieving.
Yet the people did not run. They stood in line and protected their votes. That courage is the true spirit of democracy, and it is what DCP stands for.
A leader for everyone
Hon. Kamau has made a promise to serve every resident of Ol Kalou equally, whether or not they voted for him. That is the DCP way. We are not a party of one community or one class. We are a party of citizens, and we will serve all of them.
The road to 2027 starts here
All of Kenya was watching Ol Kalou, and everyone knew what this election meant. It was a test of who truly speaks for the people of Mt Kenya and beyond. The answer came back loud and clear.
Ol Kalou is not the end of the journey. It is the beginning. What happened there can happen in every constituency, every county and every corner of this republic.
Thank you, Ol Kalou
To every voter, polling agent, volunteer, mobiliser and supporter: this victory belongs to you. Asanteni sana.
Now the work begins. Hon. Kamau is ready to deliver, and DCP is ready to lead.
Join the movement. Register as a DCP member, volunteer in your area, and help us carry the spirit of Ol Kalou across Kenya.
