DCP Youth League Launches “The Young Politico Handbook” to Prepare Young Candidates for 2027

The DCP Youth League has launched The Young Politico Handbook, its new training manual for young candidates. The launch took place on 22 September 2026 at the DCP Party Headquarters in Nairobi. The handbook is also known as the DCP Young Candidates Training Manual, and it now serves as the Youth League’s flagship guide for young aspirants preparing to seek elective office.

Taking the mystery out of politics

For too long, politics in Kenya has felt closed off to young people, a game whose rules only a few insiders understand. The Young Politico Handbook sets out to change that. It turns political theory into practical, step-by-step guidance on organising, campaigning, leading and taking part effectively in elections.

The handbook covers the skills a modern campaign needs:

  • Engaging young voters
  • Developing a clear message and running issue-based campaigns
  • Digital communication and social media strategy
  • Grassroots fundraising and mobilisation
  • Personal branding and public image
  • Structured mentorship for emerging leaders
  • Mental health awareness and resilience for aspirants

Built by young leaders, for young leaders

The handbook was developed under the leadership of DCP National Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga. Hon. Peter Kawanjiru of the National Secretariat (Political Affairs) and PWD Representative Haya Dennis also contributed to the content. Wesley Jeff designed it from cover to cover.

From headquarters to every county

The launch went beyond publishing a book. The Youth League has trained its first group of youth trainers on the handbook’s modules. These trainers will now take the training to the counties, so that young DCP members at the grassroots get the same consistent, high-quality preparation as those in Nairobi.

This builds on the Youth League’s wider plan for 2027:

  • Train and support more than 300 young aspirants
  • Open youth offices in all 47 counties
  • Mobilise at least three million youth votes
  • Launch university and TVET chapters across the country

Moving youth from the sidelines to the centre

Young people make up most of Kenya’s population, yet only 52 of the 330 Members of Parliament are youth. Of the 1,450 elected MCAs, only 12 are young women. The DCP Youth League believes this must change. It also believes that change starts with preparation.

The year 2027 will demand candidates who are prepared, teams that are organised, and leaders who understand the political process. With The Young Politico Handbook, DCP’s young leaders are getting ready now.

Young. Prepared. Organised. Ready.

Young people who want to join the DCP Youth League or take part in the upcoming county trainings can reach the Youth League through the DCP Party Youth League Facebook page or visit the DCP Party Headquarters on Musa Gitau Road, Lavington or any county office.
